Health claims about food products are an indication of a relationship between a health effect and the food itself. To make a health claim, you must meet very specific requirements – including an appropriate nutrient profile score. The food or a serving of the food must meet certain compositional requirements, depending on the type of claim, and require particular wording to ensure that the consumer gets the full intent of the health claim. Health claims generally centre around the overall diet of the consumer and it is this that must also be communicated. This course pulls together the necessary information needed to make a health claim either on the label or in advertising.
