Plain English Allergen Labelling

Plain English Allergen Labelling

The new allergen labelling requirements are in place and we have created a new online course to explain about the new requirements for your food labels. The allergens that must be labelled are wheat and hybridised strains whether or not they contain gluten; oats, rye, barley and hybridised strains if they contain gluten; crustacea; eggs; fish; milk; mollusc; peanuts; soybeans; sesame seeds; tree nuts – almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pine nut, pistachio, walnut; and lupin. You need to also declare added sulphites in concentrations of 10 mg/kg or more.

The legislation is now telling food manufacturers how to label for food allergens.

While there has been a 3-year transition for manufacturers to move over to the new labelling requirements, and all products packaged after 25th February 2024 must now comply with the new labelling requirements.

Make sure that you are across what these changes mean for your product labels.
